Our Programs
Bridging the Gap Between the Housed and Unhoused Communities
1. The Be-Friending Program
The Be-Friending Program at Homeless Action Sonoma is all about building relationships. We match housed volunteers with both sheltered and unsheltered community members, creating partnerships that aim to help the unhoused access the services they need. Through this program, housed individuals act as advocates and guides, helping their unhoused friends navigate local resources, apply for housing, and access mental health or medical services.
This program is more than just about providing services; it’s about breaking down barriers and humanizing the experience of homelessness. As trust grows between the housed and unhoused participants, we foster a deeper understanding of each other’s experiences. Ultimately, the Be-Friending Program helps reduce the social segregation between these two groups, creating a stronger, more unified Sonoma Valley.
Whether you want to volunteer your time, skills, or resources, there are many ways to get involved. Learn more about our current programs and volunteer opportunities below and see how you can make a difference.
